The anodized aluminum wire coatings are permanent. It is still possible to scratch the coating however. I recommend that you use nylon jaw pliers or coated pliers. Anodized aluminum is naturally tarnish resistant and rust proof. If you need to touch up scratches, colored sharpies work really well!.
